• Vehicle follow preferences — which EVs you choose to track
• Digest frequency preference — daily or weekly

We also collect anonymous analytics data (page views, scroll depth, feature usage) through Matomo, a privacy-focused analytics platform hosted on Canadian infrastructure.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To send you email digests about the electric vehicles you follow
• To authenticate your account via magic link emails
• To improve the platform based on aggregate usage patterns
• To maintain CASL compliance records

3. Email Communications

EVD2.ca sends the following types of emails:

• Transactional emails — magic link login emails and subscription confirmations. These are required for account functionality.
• Digest emails — periodic summaries of news and updates for vehicles you follow. You choose the frequency (daily, weekly, or paused) and can unsubscribe at any time.

All digest emails require explicit double opt-in consent in compliance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link that works without requiring you to log in.

4. Advertising in Emails

EVD2.ca email digests may occasionally include:

• Sponsored content from news sources — clearly labelled links to articles from our partner news sources that may be sponsored or promoted
• Automotive industry advertisements — relevant promotions from automotive manufacturers, dealerships, charging networks, or EV-related service providers
• Affiliate links — links to products or services where EVD2 may receive a commission, always clearly disclosed

All advertising and sponsored content will be clearly identified and separated from editorial content. We will never sell or share your email address with advertisers. Advertising is delivered through our own email system — third parties do not have access to your contact information.

By subscribing to EVD2 email digests, you consent to receiving occasional advertising content alongside your vehicle updates. You can opt out of all emails at any time via the unsubscribe link.

5. CASL Compliance

EVD2.ca complies with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Specifically:

• We obtain express consent via double opt-in before sending any commercial electronic messages
• Every email identifies the sender (EVD2.ca / Idea Warehouse) and includes a physical mailing address
• Every email contains a working unsubscribe mechanism
• Unsubscribe requests are processed immediately
• We maintain records of consent including timestamp, IP address, and method for a minimum of 3 years

6. Analytics & Tracking

We use Matomo for website analytics. Matomo is a privacy-focused, open-source analytics platform. Our instance is hosted on Canadian infrastructure at analytics.ideawarehouse.ca.

We track:

• Page views and navigation patterns
• Scroll depth on content pages
• Feature usage (vehicle follows, search queries)
• Referral sources

We do not use Google Analytics or any third-party tracking pixels. We do not sell or share analytics data.

7. Data Storage & Security

• Account data is stored in a MySQL database on Canadian-hosted infrastructure
• Passwords are never stored — we use passwordless magic link authentication
• Sessions are encrypted and expire after 30 days
• All connections use HTTPS encryption
• We do not store full article content — only links, titles, and summaries

8. Data Retention

• Account data is retained while your account is active
• CASL consent records are retained for a minimum of 3 years after the last email sent
• Email send logs are retained for 3 years for audit purposes
• Analytics data is retained for 12 months
• You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting info@evd2.ca

9. Third-Party Services

• Email delivery — Resend (or Amazon SES) for transactional and digest emails
• AI summaries — Anthropic (Claude) for article summarization, clearly labelled
• Analytics — Matomo (self-hosted on Canadian infrastructure)
• DNS/CDN — Cloudflare for performance and security

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party for their marketing purposes.

10. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your account and data
• Unsubscribe from email communications at any time
• Withdraw consent for data processing

12. Unsolicited Communications

By sending unsolicited commercial email, promotional material, or spam to any @evd2.ca email address, you agree to subscribe to the EVD2.ca daily vehicle digest for all vehicles currently tracked on the platform. This subscription will be activated automatically and will include every electric vehicle in our database. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link provided in each email, though we think you'll find it genuinely useful.
